In today’s Gospel, Jesus looks upon the crowd with a heart full of compassion. He sees people who are tired, lost, and in need of guidance. We too, along the roads of life, need His gaze that comforts, lifts up, and calls us. Let us entrust ourselves to Him and allow Him to send us as instruments of His love.

Lord Jesus,
You looked upon the crowd with mercy.
Look upon us as well.
When we are confused, give us Your light.
When we are weary, sustain us with Your presence.

You call workers into Your harvest.
Make our hearts ready to respond.
Free us from indifference.
Teach us to recognize those who await a kind word, a gesture of peace, a helping hand.

Lord, raise up holy vocations in Your Church.
Call priests, religious men and women, and missionaries.
Grant them courage, fidelity, and joy.
May they proclaim the Gospel with love and truth.

Give us attentive eyes for those who suffer.
Help us bring comfort to the lonely.
Teach us to heal wounds with the tenderness that comes from You.

And when You send us into the world, Lord,
may we not rely on our own strength.
May we carry Your name with humility.
So that every encounter may become a sign of Your Kingdom.
Amen.

EXPLANATION

In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus is moved with compassion for the crowds and asks that prayers be offered for laborers in the harvest. He then calls the Twelve and sends them to proclaim the Kingdom of God. This prayer helps us rediscover the mission of every baptized Christian: to witness the Gospel through daily life while supporting priestly and religious vocations. Christ’s compassionate heart becomes the model for the way we look upon others.

  3. Perform a concrete act of charity for a person in need.
