In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that faith is not something to hide. Like a lamp shining in the darkness and salt giving flavor to food, every Christian is called to bring light, hope, and goodness into the world. Let us entrust to the Lord our desire to live the Gospel with simplicity and courage.

Lord Jesus,

You call me to be the salt of the earth.
Give me a sincere heart.
May my presence bring peace where there is unrest.

You call me to be the light of the world.
Kindle within me the flame of faith.
Do not let fear hide its brightness.

When I meet those who are sad,
teach me to offer a kind word.
When I see someone who is alone,
make me ready to draw near.

May my actions speak of You.
Not to seek human praise,
but so that many may recognize Your love.

Mary, Mother of the Church,
walk beside me each day.
Help me reflect the light of Christ
with humility and joy.
Amen.

EXPLANATION

Jesus uses two simple images: salt and light. Salt gives flavor and preserves; light illuminates and guides. Christians are called to make God’s love visible through acts of charity, truth, and mercy. Good works are not meant to draw attention to ourselves, but to help others recognize the goodness of our Heavenly Father.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

  1. Offer an encouraging word to someone today.
  2. Perform an act of kindness without expecting anything in return.
  3. Spend a few minutes praying for those who suffer.
  4. Replace a complaint with a constructive attitude.
  5. Witness your faith with simplicity and respect.
