We can forecast rain from a cloud, yet we struggle to read what God is doing. Jesus asks the crowd to judge for themselves what is right and to settle matters while there is still time. The favorable moment is today.

Lord, I read the sky and promise rain.
Teach me to read as carefully the signs you sow in my days.
Open my eyes to the hour I am living,
so I do not walk past your visit.
You ask me to decide for myself what is right.
Give me a conscience that is clear and free.
I do not need excuses or disguises;
truth is enough for me.
Jesus, you speak of the opponent met on the road.
How many old grudges I still carry!
Give me strength to take the first step
while we are still on the way.
Father, time is short and precious.
Do not let me put off forgiveness.
What I must untie, let me untie today.
Your judgment is mercy for those who turn back.
Holy Spirit, peace between brothers and sisters,
step into our quarrels.
Make us craftsmen of reconciliation.
Amen.
In the Gospel of Luke (12:54-59), Jesus tells the crowds that when they see a cloud rising in the west they say rain is coming, and when the south wind blows they say it will be hot. They can read the face of earth and sky, yet they cannot read this present time. He urges them to judge for themselves what is right and to settle with an opponent on the way, before reaching the judge. It is an urgent call to conversion and reconciliation.
