Daily Prayer for Monday, June 22, 2026 entitled: “The mirror of the soul and the gaze of mercy”

Lord Jesus, physician of our souls, purify our minds.
We often become harsh judges of our brothers and sisters.
We forget the beam that blinds our own eyes.
Grant us today a humble and sincere heart.

Clear our gaze from the hypocrisy that condemns.
Teach us to look at others as You look at them.
May Your mercy be the measure of our words.
Help us to correct ourselves before correcting our neighbor.

Holy Spirit, gift of the Father, pour charity into us.
Grant that our lips may offer blessings and not sentences.
Deliver us from the illusion of feeling better than others.
Make us builders of peace and of sincere communion.

Amen.

EXPLANATION

Today’s Gospel touches the core of our fraternal relationships. Jesus does not forbid fraternal correction, which is a spiritual work of mercy, but He condemns the hypocrisy of malicious judgment. Those who judge forget that they are saved sinners themselves. The Magisterical teaching reminds us that God alone knows the depths of the human heart. Before looking at another’s speck, we are called to a profound examination of conscience. Only a gaze purified by God’s forgiveness can help a brother rise, without pride but with authentic charity.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

1. Make a profound examination of conscience before criticizing someone else’s behavior.
2. Replace a negative comment or gossip with a silent prayer for that person.
3. Practice empathetic listening, trying to understand your brother’s struggles before evaluating him.
4. Sincerely ask for forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the times you have judged.
5. Speak with gentleness when you are called to correct someone, acting solely for their true good.

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION

1. What is the “beam” in my own eye that I find hardest to admit to myself today?
2. Do I frequently use severity with others and self-justification for my own faults?
3. Does the way I speak about my brothers and sisters reflect the mercy that God constantly uses with me?
4. When I notice a flaw in my neighbor, is my first reaction intercession or condemnation?
5. Am I ready to let the Lord purify my gaze on this day?
