Bonds of the Spirit, the Embrace of God's True Family
In today’s Gospel, Jesus invites us to broaden our understanding of human relationships, turning blood ties into a deeper brotherhood grounded in hearing and doing the Father’s will. It is not a rejection of family affection, but an elevation of love that encompasses us all in divine grace.
Father of boundless goodness,
who revealed your will to us as life and salvation,
keep our hearts attentive and docile to your Holy Word.
Jesus, Brother and Master,
you extend your hand and call us to be your true family;
teach us to overcome every barrier and recognize in everyone a face to love.
Holy Spirit of Grace,
make us prompt and generous in fulfilling the divine plan,
so that our daily actions reflect our true belonging to the Kingdom.
Lord, bless our earthly families
and grant them the light of a pure, unwavering faith,
capable of uniting spirits even beyond ties of blood.
Make us instruments of unity and peace,
so that every man and woman may experience the joy
of being beloved children and brothers and sisters in your Holy Name.
Amen.
In Matthew (12:46-50), Jesus does not disregard blood relationships, nor His Mother, who was the first to live in perfect alignment with God’s will. By gesturing toward His disciples, the Lord reveals that true spiritual kinship is born from doing the Father’s will. Church teaching reminds us that faith forms a new family, the Church, where human bonds are purified and elevated through Christ’s love.
