In today’s Gospel, some men try to trap Jesus with their words. But the Lord looks beyond appearances and sees the heart. We too are called to live responsibly in this world while remembering that our lives belong first and foremost to God.
Lord Jesus,
you know the hidden thoughts
and see what others cannot see.
Teach me to walk in truth.
When the many concerns of life
fill my heart,
remind me that I belong to you
and that nothing is greater than your love.
Give me a clear and honest vision,
able to recognize what is good
and choose what gives glory to you.
Help me fulfill my daily duties
with integrity and faithfulness,
without forgetting the heaven
to which you call me.
And when I feel divided
between many voices and desires,
gather my heart
and draw it back to you.
Amen.
In the Gospel, Jesus says: “Give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” The Lord teaches that believers must live responsibly within society and fulfill their duties faithfully. Yet He also reveals a deeper truth: every person bears the image of God. Therefore, our hearts, our choices, and our entire lives belong to Him. True freedom is found when God holds first place in our lives.
