Embracing the Cross to Rediscover Life
Meeting the Lord requires the courage to step out of our comfort zones. We are not called to guard our tiny boundaries, but to open our hands and follow in His footsteps. In the Cross, we rediscover the beauty of self-giving love.
Lord Jesus, gentle and crucified Master,
open our eyes to the illusions of selfishness.
Teach us the true meaning of discipleship.
Light of our steps,
give us the strength to take up our cross daily
without fear of losing our human securities.
Spirit of Holiness,
guard our hearts from the temptation to gain the world.
Help us realize that true wealth is love freely given.
Jesus, Redeemer of the world,
make us steadfast witnesses of Your future glory,
ready to lose our life to find it in You.
Amen.
In Matthew’s Gospel (16:24-28), Jesus sets clear conditions for discipleship: deny oneself and take up one’s cross. This is not a call to seek suffering, but to embrace self-giving love that holds nothing back. The Magisterium of the Church reminds us that disciples do not live to accumulate transient worldly goods, for the human soul possesses an immeasurable worth that no material possession can redeem. Gospel logic reverses worldly thinking: whoever loses their life for Christ’s sake will preserve it for eternity.
