Receiving the Seed That Bears Eternal Fruit
The Sower goes out to sow the Word in the varied soils of our hearts. Jesus invites us to hold fast to it with perseverance and constancy, overcoming choked worries to produce an abundant harvest of life.
Lord Jesus, Divine Sower of life,
You who scatter the seed of the Word with an open hand.
Make our hearts good and fertile soil.
Free us from the superficiality of the rootless path.
Purify our souls from the rocks of disbelief.
Uproot the thorns of anxiety and deceitful riches.
Source of grace, grant constancy to our faith.
May we welcome Your teaching with sincere joy.
Teach us patient waiting amid daily toil.
Holy Spirit, divine dew fertilizing the soil,
guard the Word in our thoughts and actions.
Cause charity and perseverance under trial to blossom within us.
Holy Father, author of all spiritual growth,
multiply the fruits of the Gospel in our world.
Welcome our lives offered to You in gratitude.
Amen.
The parable of the sower (Lk 8:4-15) illustrates the power of God’s Word and the different ways human hearts receive it. The path represents hardened hearts; the rock, inconsistency in trial; the thorns, worldly anxieties and the lure of wealth. The good soil represents those who hear the Word with a noble and good heart, hold it fast, and bear fruit through perseverance. The Magisterium highlights the need to nurture interior life through prayer and the Sacraments so grace is not choked.
