Jesus sends out seventy-two disciples two by two, without a bag or sandals, carrying only peace. The mission is not reserved for a chosen few: it is entrusted to anyone willing to travel light and trust in Providence. Even today the harvest is great and looks for workers willing to set out.

Lord, the harvest is still great around us.
So many hearts await a word of hope.
Send me too, if you wish, among your workers.
Do not leave me a spectator of your Kingdom.
You send me two by two, never alone.
Teach me the value of company in mission.
May I know how to walk beside a brother or sister.
Together we bear the weight of the road.
Father, I set aside what weighs me down.
No bag is needed if you are my wealth.
Let me trust in your daily providence.
The rest I entrust to you.
Christ, teach me to say first: peace to this house.
May my greeting truly carry your gift.
If it is not received, let it return to me.
But let me never stop offering it.
Holy Spirit, make me a patient and humble worker.
I do not seek conquests, but seeds you will make grow.
Sustain those who labor in silence and without applause.
To you be glory, forever.
Amen.
In the Gospel of Luke (10:1-12), Jesus appoints seventy-two other disciples and sends them two by two ahead of him into every town he intends to visit. He tells them the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few, and invites them to pray that the Lord send more. He sends them out like lambs among wolves, without bag, purse or sandals, telling them to proclaim peace in every house that welcomes them, to heal the sick, and to announce that the Kingdom of God is near. Where they are not welcomed, they are to shake the dust off their feet as a testimony.
