Prayer of the Day for Wednesday, October 7, 2026, titled: “Teach Us to Pray, as We Are Taught to Walk”

A disciple watches Jesus pray and is captivated. He does not ask for a technique, he asks to learn. And the Master gives a few simple words that begin with a name: Father. To pray is to come home and feel like a child.

Also on YouTube.

I watch you pray, Jesus, and I long to be there.
I too would like to speak so to the Father.
Give me the courage of the disciple:
«Lord, I do not know, teach me».

Father, let your name be holy on my lips.
Let your kingdom come in my choices.
Help me seek first what you want,
then what I need.

Give us today the bread that is enough.
Not a full pantry, but full trust.
Teach us to share it
with those whose table is empty.

Forgive my debts, Lord.
And loosen the knot that binds me to whoever hurt me.
Let the forgiveness received become forgiveness given.
So your name is truly holy.

Do not abandon us, Father, when the trial is hard.
Hold us by the hand in darkness and doubt.
Make us people of prayer, day after day.

Amen.

Explanation

In the Gospel of Luke (11:1-4), Jesus is in a certain place praying. When he finishes, one of his disciples says to him: «Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples». Jesus answers with the Our Father in Luke’s form, shorter than Matthew’s. He calls on the Father, asks that his name be hallowed and his kingdom come. Then he asks for daily bread, forgiveness of sins and not to be abandoned in temptation. We pray as children, with trust.

Practical Applications for Daily Life

  1. Ask like a disciple: Begin the day by saying: «Lord, teach me to pray».
  2. Pray the Our Father slowly: Say each petition slowly, pausing on a single word.
  3. Give thanks for bread: Before meals, remember those who lack the essentials.
  4. Forgive: Entrust to the Father someone who hurt you and say their name.
  5. Pray together: Invite your family to say the Our Father before sleep.

Questions for Personal or Group Reflection

  1. When did I feel the desire to learn to pray?
  2. What changes if I call God «Father» sincerely?
  3. Is the bread I ask for only mine, or also others’?
  4. To whom must I still offer the forgiveness I received?
  5. Where do I most need support in trial?
