Between the Voice of the Crowd and the Answer of the Heart
Jesus prays apart, then turns to his disciples with two questions. What do people say about me? And you, who do you say that I am? The second allows no borrowed answers. Today it is our turn to answer, in words and in life.

I see you praying apart, Jesus.
You turn to the Father before speaking to us.
Teach us the value of silence.
There your voice becomes clear.
Many speak about you, O Christ.
Some call you teacher, others prophet.
You ask me: «Who am I for you?»
Give me a sincere answer.
Like Peter, I dare to say to you:
you are the Christ of God.
Sustain my faith when it is fragile.
Guard it when it is put to the test.
You announce the cross and then the resurrection.
You do not hide the price of love.
Give us strength to carry our crosses.
With you, darkness never has the last word.
Father, guide your Church.
May she confess Christ with her life.
May she follow the Master even in trial.
Amen.
In the Gospel of Luke (9:18-22), Jesus is praying apart, with the disciples nearby. He asks them what the crowds say about him: John the Baptist, Elijah, one of the ancient prophets risen. Then he asks: «But who do you say that I am?». Peter answers: «The Christ of God». Jesus orders them not to tell anyone yet and announces that the Son of Man must suffer greatly, be rejected and killed, and rise on the third day. True faith in Christ includes the cross and the hope of the resurrection.
